It all starts with orientation.
Testimonial from Agape Volunteer

As part of our ongoing commitment to the safety, welfare and protection of all minor children, Agape requires all adult volunteers working one-on-one with students (as Homework Buddies or Cupp Reading Tutors) to pass an ANNUAL background check and to complete Darkness to Light training.  Once completed, this training is good for 3 years.  Thank you for your commitment to our students!

  • All new and existing Homework Buddies and Reading Volunteers 18 years and older are required to complete the Darkness to Light Training.  For more information about the training, please click here.
  • The training can also be completed online for $10 if you are unable to attend the site orientations. To register for online training, click here.
  • A copy of your Darkness to Light Training certificate must be emailed to  volunteer@agapeatlanta.org upon completion of the training.
  • If you have previously completed the Darkness to Light Training, please email volunteer@agapeatlanta.org a copy of your certificate.

Homework Buddies and Cupp Reading Tutors

Agape Reading Tutors work on a one on one basis with children in Agape after-school programs. Tutors are trained to use the Cupp Reader, which teaches children reading fluency, phonics, and sight words–the three necessary initial components of reading. The program is flexible and can accommodate tutors who can only be available 2 or 3 times each month.

CUPP READER TRAINING

Both NEW and RETURNING volunteers interested in serving as Cupp Reading Tutors are encouraged to attend.  We ask that anyone participating in the training commit to volunteering at least 15 hours, working one-on-one with students on the Cupp Reader Curriculum.

Monday, April 29

8:30 am – 10:30 am – Focusing on sight words
10:45 am – 12:45 am – Focusing on phonics

RSVP to: volunteer@agapeatlanta.org

Volunteer one hour of your time each week during the school year to provide mentorship and homework assistance to the elementary and middle school children in our after-school programs. This is a deeply enriching experience for both students and volunteers.
