For more than 5 years, Agape Youth & Family Center has partnered with The Lovett School to serve close to 5,500 of Atlanta’s families through the Great Thanksgiving Basket Give-Away, where they receive a turkey and a bag of fixings. The distribution helps children living in economically-disadvantaged areas of Atlanta have a Thanksgiving meal while away from the after-school program during the holiday.
This year’s Great Thanksgiving Basket Give-Away provided 550 turkeys, 250 hens and over 1,000 bags of food for Thanksgiving with the help of an additional partner, Collins Memorial United Methodist Church. Community support for this annual event continues to exceed our imagination. With the help of more than 50 students from The Lovett School and more than 45 volunteers from the community, we were able to successfully execute this endeavor. As each year passes, more people attend this event and thus, more families have access to a Thanksgiving meal.
With the smiles and passion of so many volunteers, we were able to make a large impact in the community while having fun! One of our volunteers mentioned that, “It’s such a humbling and inspiring experience to be a part of the Agape volunteer program and to see the difference you can make in those families’ lives.”
